My Journey into Photography

B&W and Gaussian Blur

with 9 comments

I am so proud of myself.  Today I successfully turned an average photo (which I took yesterday) into a gorgeous photo!  All I had to use for this miracle was Photoshop.

The photo was of an old gum tree in my backyard.  Although I was happy with the original shot,… somehow, the fence in the background was distracting.  It seemed to merge too much into the foreground.  So I thought,… hmm… lets “lose” it a little.  I did two things.  I removed the colour of the fence (ie,.. turned it into B&W)…. and then,  blurred it with the Gaussian filter. The results was super!  :)

  1. This is a great tweak! Did you use masking to desaturate the background as well as adding the blur?
