Conte crayon and warming filter
My youngest son turned 7 earlier this month. As he is big on soccer, we bought him a table foosball set,.. and what a brilliant idea this was!
The original photo, as you can imagine, was full of colour. Although I love bright photos, this one was a little overwhelming (possible because of the closeness of the subject matter). Even though the image was taken with a larger aperture, creating that blurred background, I still found it “too powerful” for the senses.
So, to “soften” it, I did the following:
1. Identified one main character that was to stand out, and left it as it was. I did no adjustments to it. In this instance, I had picked the obvious character – the one that I had focused on when I took the photo. Looking back now, this needn’t have been the obvious choice. (Must remember this for next time).
2. I applied the conte crayon filter to the image (minus the main character).
3. I then applied a warming filter onto the crayon-ed image. This created that almost invisible warm translucent colour that you may (or may not) notice on the crayon.
Personally, I find the final image easier to “read”. What do you think?

I just LOVE this photo. Don’t change a single thing. Way to go!!!

@ Joy: Thanks!
I hope that when I look at this photo in years to come, I will remember all the joy that my family are having now with this table foosball set
@ Mitr: Thanks!
. I am not familiar with PC Sriram (and had to google it). Are you refering to the Indian cinematographer? Yes – I am hoping to explore more of my creative side with this new hobby…. so far, I’m loving it
